Understanding the Options - The Grandparenting Licensure Path
On August 1, 2011, the Governor signed legislation to extend the "grandparenting" period until December 31, 2011. LPCC "grandparenting" applications must be postmarked by December 31, 2011.
CAUTION : This licensure path is different than the “Traditional” path. Even though you may qualify to apply through the “grandparenting” path, you may also qualify to apply through the "traditional" path. Please thoroughly review the licensure information on this Web site and be sure to read the BBS statutes and regulations for LPCC licensure requirements.
Please note: BBS staff cannot tell you which licensure path is “better.” You must review all of the requirements to determine whether or not your education and experience qualify you for licensure. The LPCC Licensure Pathway Overview may assist you as well. All licensure paths require examinations.
Missing Education or Experience Hours? Still Need to Take an Exam?
That’s okay. You may submit your application even if you have not completed all of the requirements. You have one year from the date you receive a deficiency letter from BBS to remediate these deficiencies. HOWEVER, you will not be issued a license until you complete all of the requirements and submit a complete initial license application with the necessary fee.If you still have questions after reviewing the information on this website, please contact the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION FOR LICENSED PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL COUNSELORS.
